A tiny pygmy hippopotamus was born on the 5th of August at Sosto Zoo.
The mother called Broutille was transferred from France in 2006, while the father called Hamlet arrived form Denmark in 2009.
In the last few weeks the zookeepers observed them by turns because the exact date of the birth could not be predicted.
The date of the 5th of August 2011 will become an important date in the history of Hungarian zoos, since only one pygmy hippopotamus was born in Hungary previously.
The mother does not hide her offspring, thus she can be observed by visitors.
