A red panda baby was examined today by the veterinarian for the usual health checks and to determine its sex. At 7 weeks, the young weigh 706 grams and he is a male!
Following the recommendation of the EAZA Ex situ programme (EEP), coordinated by Diergaarde Blijdorp / Rotterdam Zoo, his parents came from Dublin Zoo (Ireland) and ZOO Bratislava (Slovakia) 7 years ago.
This is good news for the Endangered species, whose population is still declining in the wild due to habitat degradation and other threats.
