Our youngest mongoose, who was born a few weeks ago, did not leave the dens for shelter in the very first days, although by now the visitors can observe it. The mongooses are careful parents, not only the mother but the others protect the newborn as well.
The small mongoose is curious and continuously looks for food. It is not a wonder, since it is a species specific feature. They have a varied diet consisting of every kind of animals that they are able to eat, for example eggs, snakes and worms.
In Hungary, Banded mongooses can be seen only in Sosto Zoo. They spend also the winter in the enclosure, since one tunnel of their termite mounds leads to under the heated zebra stable, where they can hide in case of cold weather.
