Goodbye Bubu!
Sóstó Zoo, Hungary places great emphasis on the breeding and conservation of endangered species.
That's why it was great news for us that both of our western lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla gorilla) males have now been matched with females.
Bubu (27) has gone to Belo Horizonte Zoo in Brazil to be with 3 female gorillas under the European Endangered Species Programme, and the male gorilla Djumbah (28) who is staying with us will not be alone, as 2 female gorillas will be joining him in March from Barcelona.
Could you imagine?
-Bubu has been trained in the transport crate for several months to be comfortable and accept food from strangers during the 1-day trip.
-The trip was preceded by nearly half a year of "paperwork".
-The host zoo's vet traveled here before the transport to learn about Bubu and his habits.
