4 Steller's Sea-Eagles arrived

Four young 8-9 month old Steller's-Sea- Eagles arrived in our zoo from Germany and the Netherlands as part of the European Endangeres Species Programme (EEP).
Our park has undertaken to set up a so-called eagle nursery: the rare predators will be kept and reared here until they reach sexual maturity, when they are expected to be 5-6 years old.

The European coordinator for the species is a member of our staff who will also organise the subsequent mating and relocation when the birds reach breeding age.
 Did you know?
Although the Steller's Sea-Eagle lags behind the harpy eagle and the ape-eating eagle in wingspan, it is the world's largest eagle species with a body weight of 9 ~10 kg.
Its population is declining in the wild. The main threats include habitat loss, diminishing prey base due to overfishing and accumulation of toxins such as lead pollution.
This is why it is important to keep these impressive birds in closed housing conditions.
