Special conference took place in Sosto Zoo organized by the EAZA. The aim of this workshop is to teach the employees of East-European zoos the methods of modern animal husbandry.
Approximately 60 perticipants arrived in Sosto Zoo from Hungarian zoos, respectively from Romania, Serbia and Croatia.
The Enrichment Workshop based on practice contains first-line methods that aim is to provide broad knowledge about the use of environmental enrichment as a part of routine duties in zoos. The goal is that everbody should get to know how to plan these programs effectively and successfully in order to improve the welfare of captive animals.
The tutor of the conference is Valerie Hare from USA. Valerie is the establisher of the so-called The Shape of Enrichment founded in 1991, and she is also the coordinator of these workshops. The Shape of Enrichment thematic was elaborated in the way to create as cheap enrichment techniques as possible.
During the four days the aim is to establish natural-like enclosures that inspire the natural behavioural methods in zoos, the conference provides the required theoretical and practical knowledge for this.
