Today, they underwent to a general medical examination.
The Nyiregyhaza Zoo introduced to the representatives of the media the two Siberian tiger cubs, who are the youngest big cats of the zoo at 11:00 on 23rd July 2015.
The two-weeks old animals were taken out for the first time today because of the examination by our vet for having their general condition checked, vaccinating them and also giving them the deworming paste.
The test – that they took heroically - also revealed their gender: one female and one male were born, their names are Katja (at two weeks 2.65kg) and Vladim (2.85kg).
Our Siberian tiger couple, who lives here regarding to the European conservation breeding program (EEP), is very successful, this is their third bed of straw.
The matured female member of the couple is especially close to us because she was born here in 2005. Pamir is a very caring parent now too, she takes care of her tiny ones in a separated enclosure.
The Siberian tiger is the biggest one among the presently living six tiger subspecies are now living in the six largest stature – the matured males can be even 300kg, thus the largest big cat in the world.
Their original habitat were at the eastern part of Siberia, Manchuria and Korea, however, today their numbers and ranging decreased dramatically, and there are barely 400 of them among the region of the Amur and Usszuri river.
The main reason of their fading out that not even they but their main preys, deers and wild boars are hunted by poachers which destruct of their natural habitats.
Their popularity is getting together that our zoo’s staff will be asked to caress the baby tigers. However, this is unfortunately not possible. The tigers are not pets but wild animals, calm and for their the healthy environment is essential for their development. Of course, the little animals can be seen at a separated part of the enclosure of the Siberian tigers.
