KITO is the name of the little one, which was chosen by our keepers from more than 2000 proposed name!
The only one African elephant baby of our country became 1 month old and regarding to the Sosto Zoo’s tradition he reached the age to have his name got.
We asked the help of our visitors for naming the little one, so they had 3 weeks for figuring our their suggestions. There was no any exposals, although we would have liked, if it begins with letter ’K’ as his mother’s, Kwanza.
As it turned out, the little one has a huge fan base, since more than 2,000 names’ suggestions were submitted. There were several of them which made us smile like ’Sugarpea-Cukorborsó’, ’Clutch-Kuplung’ or ’Bela, the dwarf mammoth’, and there were several other ones which could be brilliant for a baby elephant, but not for a full-grown bull like: ’Kacifánt’ or ’Coconut’.
After a long consultation our elephant keepers chose the name ’Kito’ which means jewelry, precious stone and precious child in Swahili. In addition, the calf's maternal grandfather’s name is Kibo, so the chosen name is the perfect name for him.
This African name was liked many of our visitors, 25 of them suggested the same name. They will be rewarded with an entrance ticket to visit their God-child.
