Beak correction was executed on our female red-crowned crane. A malformation had developed and the upper and lower part of the beak had not closed correctly thus they had not been worn down adequately.
The beak trimming had not only an aesthetical function but there had been a chance that the bird could not feed the possible offsprings with a malformed beak, so our veterinarian gently filed away the abnormal growth of the beak to produce a symmetrical shape.
2 cm on maxilla and 2,8 cm on mandible were grinded down. The procedure was performed without any complication.
